When was the Burning Bacardi Invented

Bacardi is a brand of rum that has been in existence for over 150 years. The history of Bacardi begins in 1862, when a young man named Don Facundo Bacardi Massó established a small distillery in Santiago de Cuba. He experimented with various techniques to create a smoother and more refined rum, and eventually developed a new process using charcoal filtration, which he called “La Levadura Bacardi” (Bacardi yeast).

The success of Bacardi quickly spread throughout Cuba and beyond, with Bacardi rum becoming the preferred drink of the island’s upper class. However, the company faced significant challenges in the early 20th century, including political instability in Cuba and the onset of Prohibition in the United States, which had been one of Bacardi’s biggest markets.

In response to these challenges, the Bacardi family decided to move the company’s operations to the United States in the 1930s. They established a new headquarters in Miami, Florida, and began producing rum there using the same techniques that had made Bacardi so successful in Cuba.

Over the years, Bacardi has continued to innovate and expand, introducing new flavors and varieties of rum and expanding its distribution to over 170 countries worldwide. Today, Bacardi is one of the largest and most recognizable spirits brands in the world, with a rich history and a loyal following of fans who appreciate the brand’s quality and heritage.

What You Need

  • dark rum
  • lemon
  • brown sugar
  • 151cubita rum

How to Make a Burning Bacardi

  • Add dark rum to bullet glass and lemon slice over the top of the glass.
  • Place brown sugar on top of the lemon slice and pour 151cubita rum over the brown sugar.
  • Light the brown sugar and serve when the brown sugar caramelizes and the fire goes out.

Tip For Making a Burning Bacardi

  • Use a heat-resistant glass: Choose a glass that is designed to withstand high temperatures, such as a tempered glass or a ceramic mug. Avoid using a plastic or paper cup, which can melt or catch on fire.
  • Measure the ingredients carefully: To achieve the right balance of flavors, it’s important to measure the ingredients accurately. Use a jigger or a measuring cup to ensure that you’re using the correct amount of each ingredient.
  • Adjust the sweetness to taste: If the cocktail is too tart, add a bit more simple syrup. If it’s too sweet, add a bit more lime juice. Taste as you go and adjust the ingredients to your preference.
  • Practice fire safety: When lighting the cocktail, keep your face and body a safe distance away from the flame. Have a fire extinguisher or a damp towel on hand in case of an emergency. Always extinguish the flame before drinking the cocktail.
  • Enjoy responsibly: Like any alcoholic beverage, it’s important to drink the Burning Bacardi responsibly. Don’t overindulge, and never drink and drive.

Remember, making a Burning Bacardi involves handling fire and should only be attempted by those with experience in making flammable drinks. If you’re not comfortable working with fire, or if you’re unsure of the safety precautions involved, it’s best to avoid making this cocktail.

Frequently asked questions

How do you light a Burning Bacardi?

To light a Burning Bacardi, pour the cocktail into a heat-resistant glass and then carefully ignite it with a lighter or a match. Let it burn for a few seconds and then extinguish the flames by placing a heat-resistant coaster or lid over the glass.

Is Burning Bacardi safe to drink?

If made correctly and consumed responsibly, Burning Bacardi is safe to drink. However, it’s important to exercise caution when handling fire and to always follow safety precautions.

Can I use a regular Bacardi rum instead of Bacardi 151?

Bacardi 151 is specifically designed for use in flammable cocktails because of its high alcohol content. Using a regular Bacardi rum may not achieve the same flammable effect, and the cocktail may not taste the same.

Can I make a non-alcoholic version of Burning Bacardi?

Since the flammable effect of Burning Bacardi comes from the high alcohol content of Bacardi 151, it’s not possible to make a non-alcoholic version of the cocktail that produces flames. However, you can make a non-alcoholic version of the cocktail by substituting the Bacardi 151 with a non-alcoholic ingredient that provides a similar taste and texture.

Can I use a straw to drink Burning Bacardi?

It’s not recommended to use a straw to drink Burning Bacardi because the straw can ignite and cause a fire. Instead, it’s best to sip the cocktail slowly and carefully from the glass, taking care to avoid any flames or hot surfaces.
