When was the Mai Tai Invented?

The Mai Tai cocktail was invented in 1944 by Victor J. Bergeron, a restaurant owner and bartender from Oakland, California. Bergeron, who was known as “Trader Vic,” created the cocktail for some friends who were visiting him from Tahiti.

  • Add 1 oz pineapple juice to the shaker.
  • Add 1 oz orange juiceto the shaker.

  • Fill a rocks glass with ice.
  • Strain the cocktail over the ice in the rocks glass.
  • Garnish with a mint sprig and a lime wheel.

"MaiTai" meaning best in Tahitian, is a tropical cocktail designed by Victor, the owner of the Oakland restaurant. It is a tropical cocktail that has been widely acclaimed around the world, and its sparkling garnish and the cocktail's special shade led to its use as a prop in Elvis Presley's Blue Hawaii movie, which has since spread to the world.
The mixture of orange juice, pineapple juice, lemon juice and red pomegranate syrup not only brings sweet and sour taste, but also makes this cocktail strong and fruity. And the addition of white and dark rums brings a different flavor and a very refreshing taste.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz dark rum
  • 1 oz silver rum
  • 1 teaspoon of red grenadine syrup
  • ¼ oz disaronno originale
  • ½ oz lemon juice
  • 1 oz pineapple juice
  • 1 oz orange juice
  • 1 cup ice cubes

Instructions

On the hurricane cup, brush syrup and stick petals for decoration. In a cocktail mixer full of ice, combine the dark rum, white rum, grenadine, disaronno originale, lemon juice, pineapple juice and orange juice. Shake vigorously and strain into glass full of ice.
